WP5 is led by the University of Oulu and involved developing and dissemination of information on best practice technologies for waste water treatment. In particular, for reducing the release of sulphates and heavy metals to the environment.
The workpackage has specified four outputs to be focussed on:
- Op7.1 Increased knowledge on sorption of metals from leachate
- Op7.2 Knowledge on technologies for recovery of metals and ions from leachate
- Op7.3 Increased knowledge on sulphate reduction and metal sulphide recovery
- Op7.4 Increased knowledge on geotechnical barriers for immobilisation
Op7.1 Knowledge on sorption of metals from leachate
The following activities are planned:
- A7.1.1 Inorganic materials used to remove heavy metals from waste water
- A7.1.2 Extraction of the impurities of toxic metals from complex solutions
Op7.3 Knowledge on sulphate reduction and metal sulphide recovery
The following activities are planned:
- A7.3.1 Documentation of procedures to utilise organic waste and sulphate-reducing microbes
- A7.3.2 Demonstration of practice of recovery of metal ions as metal sulphides
- A7.3.3 Application of technology on specific waste waters
Op7.4 Knowledge on geotechnical barriers for immobilisation
The following activities are planned:
- A7.4.1 Development and testing of effective geo-chemical barriers
